The IceCats are Headed to Nationals!

The UPJ IceCats won the Atlantic Regional Tournament
with a 4-3 Overtime win against Bryn Athyn College. With the win, UPJ
clinches a spot at the 2014 ACHA National Tournament in Coral Springs,
Florida March 11 - March 15. Anthony Pioli, player of the game, recorded 2
powerplay goals and Troy Schall scored the overtime goal. The IceCats
found themselves down 2-0 after the first period but responded with 3
unaswered goals in the secord period to take a 3-2 lead.  With 12:20
remaining in the third period Bryn Athyn scored a powerplay goal to tie
the game at 3.  With 1:07 remaining in the third period, UPJ took a 2
minute minor for tripping and then with 0:39 UPJ was penalized for a 2
minute minor for hooking putting UPJ down 5 on 3.  Bryn Athyn failed to
capitalize on the powerplay at the end of the regulation sending the game
into sudden death overtime.  At 19:19 into overtime, Bryn Athyn took a 2
minute minor for hooking resulting in a 4 on 3 Bryn Athy poweplay.  UPJ
killed the 4 on 3 penalty and 19 seconds into the 4 on 4 play, Eugene Mack
gained control of the puck in the offensive zone, gave a pass to Troy
Schall in the slot and Schall scored a backhand goal for the victory. UPJ
had 37 shots on goal and Bryn Athyn had 25. UPJ is placed in Pool C at the
National Tournament and will face Florida Gulf Coast, Colorado State and
Hope College. The winners of each pool will advance to the semi-finals.
